Disposing of Bulk Items

I need to throw a couch out and I called the Department of Public Works to schedule a bulk pick up. They said the next time they're doing a bulk pick up is February 1st. Anyone know how i can dispose of it any other way? I don't want to wait so long to have it picked up.
